About the Department/College
The Department of Health Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), is home to some of NAU's fastest growing undergraduate degree programs and currently serves approximately 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students. The department is a true multidisciplinary unit, providing six different undergraduate degree programs in five unique disciplines (Public Health, Nutrition and Foods, Allied Health, Fitness Wellness, and Physical Education Teacher Education), along with the Master of Public Health degree, and an Interdisciplinary Health PhD degree between CHHS and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Health Sciences Department lives its values, emphasizing health and wellbeing for its students, staff, and faculty.
About the Position
The Department of Health Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Northern Arizona University, invites applicants for a full-time (9-month) career-track faculty position at the Lecturer level (Master's degree required) in Public Health. The position begins in August 2025. This position is a 9 month non-tenure position
This is a full-time, non-tenure career track eligible faculty position, requiring a balance of teaching (80%) and service (20%) with no research expectation. Teaching load for this position is typically 12 credits (4 courses) per semester.
The successful applicant will have the expertise to teach both residential and online courses on three or more of the following topics:
• Foundations of Public Health,
• Current Health Issues (junior-level writing requirement),
• Public Health Program Evaluation,
• Human Diseases,
• Methods for Community Health Promotion,
• and/or Organization and Administration of Health Services, Future Directions in Public Health.
In addition to quality teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in Department, College/University, and Community/Professional service. Research and other forms of scholarship activity are not an expectation for this position, and reassigned time will not be allocated for research activities.
This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Psychology, Health Promotion, Health Care Management/Administration, or a related field (conferred by or before August 11, 2025)
• University or community college teaching experience as the primary instructor of record.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching in a university setting as the primary instructor of record (online or in-person).
• Evidence of teaching at multiple levels of the curriculum (e.g., lower 100/200 level classes, upper 300/400 level classes).
• Applied experience with the three core functions of public health.
• Experience collaborating with partners across the public health system.
• Experience working and interacting with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
