We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to support the operations and maintenance (O&M) engineering functions at Creech Air Force Base (CAFB). The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering structural engineering services for the planning, design, renovation, maintenance, and construction of real property facilities and utility systems.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Conduct facility inspections to identify deficiencies and support infrastructure maintenance planning.

+ Prepare structural designs, layouts, specifications, and engineering documentation (e.g., SOWs, SOOs, IGCEs).

+ Review A&E and in-house designs for maintainability, compatibility, and structural soundness.

+ Manage and monitor construction projects from planning through completion, including site surveys and as-built reviews.

+ Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, architects, utility providers, and stakeholders to ensure integrated project delivery.

+ Oversee contractor compliance with contract specifications, timelines, and safety/environmental standards.

+ Support technical reviews of construction proposals, change orders, and cost estimates.

+ Use design and project management software (CADD, estimating tools, tracking systems) to execute and monitor work.

+ Stay updated on structural engineering technologies and best practices.

+ Occasionally assist in base development planning, programming, and economic analysis for various facility projects.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

+ Minimum 6 years of project management or design experience with a U.S.-based firm within the last 10 years

+ Knowledge of U.S. building codes, safety and environmental regulations

+ Must be willing to complete required AFIT courses (WMGT 322, WMGT 422, WENG 200, WENG 400) unless already certified.

**JOB SUMMARY**

Provides a high level of property maintenance knowledge. Position has overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection. Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation. Develops and implements strategies that will deliver products and services, which meet or exceed the needs and expectations of guests and employees while maximizing the financial performance. Responsible for maintaining standards and regulatory requirements. Leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.

**CANDIDATE PROFILE**

**Education and Experience**

• High school diploma or GED; 6 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.

OR

• 2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 4 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/Electrical/Plumbing.

**CORE WORK ACTIVITIES**

**Managing Engineering Operations and Budgets**

• Works with property and regional engineering leadership team to determine how Engineering is performing against budget and highlights areas of concern to leadership.

• Manages the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

• Administers service contracts to support property needs.

• Ensures fire crew has complete understanding of all procedures, equipment and alarms.

• Coaches and supports engineering leadership team to effectively manage controllable expenses (e.g., wages, heat, light and power, water consumption, tools and equipment, grounds keeping supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, inventory, etc.).

• Manages and controls heat, light and power.

• Develops an engineering operating strategy that is aligned with the property/brand’s business strategy.

• Develops and manages Engineering budget.

• Ensures integration of departmental goals in game plans.

• Oversees execution of long term preventative maintenance and 10 year asset protection plans.

• Reviews financial reports and statements to determine how Engineering is performing against budget.

• Addresses potential areas of concern and proposing solutions to owners in a proactive manner.

• Communicates a clear and consistent message regarding departmental goals to produce desired results.

• Supervises construction to ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary guidelines.

**Maintaining Engineering Standards**

• Ensures compliance with state, local and federal regulations.

• Maintains property life safety systems (e.g., fire fighting equipment, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems).

• Ensures building and equipment licenses, permits and certifications are current.

• Ensures property policies are administered fairly and consistently.

**Managing Profitability**

• Manages areas of operation to budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets and payroll progress reports.

• Monitors and manages the payroll function.

• Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.

• Participates in the development of department's capital expenditure goals; manages projects as needed.

• Participates in the budgeting process for areas of responsibility.

• Prepares weekly and period end P&L critiques.

• Understands the impact of department's operation on the overall property financial goals; educates staff on details as appropriate.

• Reviews and manages controllable expenses such as, heat, light, power, water consumption, tools and equipment, grounds keeping supplies, uniforms, vendors, service agreements, etc.

**Conducting Human Resources Activities**

• Ensures employees are treated fairly and equitably.

• Ensures disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to Standard and Local Operating Procedures (SOPs and LSOPs) and support the Peer Review Process.

• Utilizes employee feedback and an “open door” policy to identify and address employee problems or concerns in a timely manner.

• Resolves guest problems and complaints.

• Brings issues to the attention of Human Resources as necessary.

The salary range for this position is $99,000 to $135,000 annually. **A Day in the Life**

**_LOCATION: Tempe, AZ_**

**_Onsite; 100%_**

This Principal Engineer will be responsible for the development of laser based processes through release to manufacturing. The Engineer will lead process development and process improvement projects to support cutting edge technology in laser joining and laser cutting of metal and glass materials. Process development work scope may span across multiple process areas with a primary focus in laser equipment. They will coordinate risk burn down and problem-solving experiments by utilizing DRM/DFSS (Design and Reliability for Manufacturing / Design For Six Sigma) and data driven methods. They will also be responsible for managing the validation activities for the development work including requirements flow down, effective control and monitoring strategies and ensuring compliance to regulations and safety for our patients.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

+ Lead the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations.

+ Champion the use of Design for Reliability and Manufacturing (DRM) and data driven methods through process development

+ Work with process owners and product development teams to define robust process flows for new products

+ Work with technology development to understand new process technologies for research and development towards release to manufacturing operations.

+ Own requirements flow down from product design to process development, including working with process owners to disposition inputs / outputs to deliver efficient, cost effective and robust control and monitor strategies

+ Own equipment scouting, down selection, qualification and characterization.

+ Own process characterization and process validation activities to ensure maturity and stability of processes when released to manufacturing.

+ Own the interfaces and interactions between processes and determine product integration risks

+ Lead risk assessments and risk burn down activities for process interfaces and interactions

+ Provide input into product and process design based on an understanding of the integration risks

+ Applies statistical methods and science-based decisions to design experiments and implement improvements

+ Coordinate and/or perform necessary experiments and product builds to establish robust processes

+ Implement and own yield monitoring systems and procedures for equipment and processes developed

+ Monitor, root cause and resolve process yield issues during product and process development

+ Lead the identification and implementation of corrective actions for yield issues in collaboration with process owners and product engineers

+ Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules

+ Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible

+ Generates and maintains documentation per quality system regulations

+ Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations

**Must Have: Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 7 years relevant hands-on experience with laser systems and optical components or advanced degree plus a minimum of 5 years relevant experience with laser systems and optical components.

**Nice to Have**

+ Experience in laser applications, including laser selection, optics package selection and ideally in joining, cutting, and marking

+ Experience with G-code or other programming languages to support laser system recipe development

+ Experience with DRM / Design for Six Sigma, Lean Sigma, or Green/Black Belt Lean Sigma certification

+ Knowledge of DOE, statistical analysis methods and data analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, etc.)

+ Strong problem-solving skills

+ Experience with wafer fabrication processes

+ Experience in developing a process from concept to transfer in manufacturing and/or experience

+ working in a high-volume manufacturing environment

+ Advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar discipline

In this exciting role as a Senior Process Engineer, you will provide technical and sustaining engineering support in manufacturing areas, including die sort and wafer mount processes. You will also have opportunity to support the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations.

This position will work onsite at our manufacturing site in **Tempe, Arizona.**

The **Senior Process Engineer (Die Prep)** is responsible for developing and supporting equipment and processes. This entails output monitoring, performing necessary experiments to establish robust processes and gaining a thorough understanding of capabilities and interactions with upstream and downstream processes.

**Responsibilities include:**

Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in manufacturing areas

Support Medtronic Performance System including the Tier meetings, Gemba walk, OEE etc.

Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques as well as production yields for existing products.

Perform equipment qualifications (IQ), process validations (Process characterization, OQ and PQ), and gage R&R studies (TMV)

Integrate equipment and material capabilities to meet process module target specifications and technology target specifications.

Review product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.

Interact with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.

Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Generate and maintain documentation per quality system regulations.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

Engineering roles in the Operations engineering group can include manufacturing engineers and process engineers, along with other exciting roles. Examples of work in each of these areas are listed below.

Manufacturing Engineer

+ Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.

+ Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

Process Engineer

+ Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area.

+ Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques as well as production yields for existing products.

Our summer internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions lasting 10-11 weeks. We offer competitive compensation, along with educational and social programming throughout the summer. The majority of our internship positions are based at our primary hubs in Minnesota, California, Colorado, and the Northeastern U.S. (Connecticut & Massachusetts). We also offer opportunities in other states, including Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, Michigan and Texas. Candidate location preferences are strongly considered during the interview and offer process; however, flexibility increases the number of potential opportunities available. All interns must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

**Must Haves:**

To be considered for a Summer 2026 engineering internship, you must meet the following basic requirements. Your resume must clearly demonstrate how you meet each of these criteria to be considered for a position.

+ Working towards a bachelor’s or master’sdegree in mechanical engineering or related engineering major with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026, Spring 2027, Winter 2027 or Spring 2028

+ The ability to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of our intern cohort from June 1 - August 14 (semester system programs) or June 15 – August 21 (quarter system programs)

+ Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and do not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa. The Medtronic Summer Internship Program does not provide work authorization sponsorship for summer intern positions. Individuals with temporary visas such as E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J or TN, or who need sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, are not eligible for the Medtronic Summer Internship Program.

**Nice to Haves:**

+ A minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$55,120 – $94,120

The base salary range is used nationally in the United States, excluding Puerto Rico. The Medtronic Internship Program offers an hourly rate of pay that falls within the range of $26.50 - $45.25 per hour. The hourly rate offered will be determined by the position and is subject to variation based on the number of years of school completed.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
